about

Music by Assaf Gleizner. Lyrics by Kimberly Hawkey

lyrics

I just can't seem to stay awake.
Of all the snoozers in the box seats - I take the cake.
Baby I try, I don't know why, I just can't help it.
I never know what happens in a show after the break.

Three cups of coffee does the trick.
I cozy up and take a sip to give me a kick.
I'm ridin' high ready to fly I just can't help it.
Until I crash I'm down within a flash, out like a brick.

It could have been the evening or the matinee.
The mask could wear a smile or a frown.
But as the curtain rose each time I sat and prayed,
that I would see that curtain come back down.

These seats are anything but cheap.
While they're all countin' on the hero, I'm countin' sheep.
Twist of the plot, I snore a lot, but I can't help it.
I fall asleep!

I've heard it said that showtunes come into our lives for a reason.
Bringing something we must learn.
I wish I knew if that were actually true.
Cause I can't remember anything from Act II...

Did Eliza meet the Queen? Did Cassie ever get seen?
Did Sweeney Todd take a head? Did Jean Valjean find his bread?
Did Mama Rose take her turn? Did Mary Poppins return?
Did Roxie Hart make a run? Did Annie get her gun?
Most importantly: did Alexander Hamilton ever get his shot?

I just can't seem to stay awake.
Why can't they end before my bedtime, for heaven's sake!
Hurry along, just cut a song, cause I can't help it.
I'll always go to every show I can, and try to keep a long attention span.
But at 11 on the dot, I don't stand a chance.
No I'm not bored. My love runs deep.
Yeah I'm just... being alive! Being alive! Being....asleep.
